Waypoint Privacy Policy
The short version: Waypoint does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. There's no account, no cloud sync, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Everything you create stays on your iPhone unless you choose to send it somewhere yourself.
This policy covers the Waypoint app for iPhone, published by Data & Ops (“we”). It describes what the app stores, where it's processed, and the few ways information can leave your device — all of which require an action from you.
What we collect
Nothing. Waypoint has no servers, and the app makes no network requests. We never receive your goals, answers, photos, or usage data. We don't use third-party SDKs for analytics, crash reporting, or advertising.
How your goals are processed
Waypoint uses Apple Intelligence features that run on your iPhone:
- Apple's on-device language model interprets your goal, your answers to clarifying questions, messages you type to steer a screen, and the optional “About you” answers.
- Image Playground generates images on your iPhone when you ask for one.
- Apple's Vision framework labels pictures and reads text in them on your iPhone when you add or paste an image.
Waypoint never sends this content to a server or a cloud AI model. If the on-device model isn't available, the app shows a built-in sample instead of falling back to the cloud.
What's stored on your iPhone
- Your waypoints: goals, the screens built for them, what you've entered, a history of changes, and how long steps took. This history is part of the experiment and stays with each waypoint.
- Images: photos you add or paste, and images you generate, are saved with the waypoint they belong to.
- “About you” (optional): three short answers — who you live with, where you live, how you like to spend — used with every goal you build.
- Preferences: a few app settings, such as where you left off and whether you've seen a notice.
This data lives only in Waypoint's storage on your device. If iCloud Backup or a computer backup is turned on, iOS may include Waypoint's data in that backup, as it does for other apps; those backups are governed by your settings and Apple's policies.
When information leaves your iPhone
Only when you do something that sends it:
- Look it up. This opens Safari with a search built from your goal. The search goes to your chosen search engine (or DuckDuckGo, if no default search is available) under that provider's privacy policy. Waypoint itself doesn't send it.
- Opening a link you've saved opens it in Safari.
- Send a copy. In the About screen you can export a cleaned-up copy of your waypoints and choose where it goes using the iOS share sheet. The copy keeps goals, item titles, and notes. It reduces links to just the site, and removes search words, messages you typed to steer a screen, your “About you” answers, and text read from pictures. Image files aren't included. Where it goes from there is up to you.
- Research sessions. If you take part in an in-person study and agree to it, the researcher may copy your waypoints off your iPhone with a cable, cleaned up the same way. Nothing is sent from the app.
Photos and the clipboard
Photos are added through the iOS photo picker, so Waypoint only sees the photos you choose and never has access to your library. To offer a Paste button, the app checks whether the clipboard holds a link or an image; it reads the clipboard's contents only when you tap Paste.
TestFlight builds
Beta builds distributed through Apple's TestFlight show a research notice explaining the experiment. Apple may collect crash reports and feedback you choose to send through TestFlight, under Apple's privacy policy; Waypoint adds nothing to that.
Deleting your data
Swipe a waypoint in the list to delete it along with its history and images, or use Delete all waypoints in the About screen. Clear the “About you” fields to remove those answers. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
Children
Waypoint isn't directed to children under 13, and because it collects no personal data, we don't knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change, we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date above before releasing that version.
